Every breath felt raw and painful as it scraped past my throat. My eyes stung with tears that wouldn't fall, and my feet ached so bad I thought they were going to fall off. But despite all of that, I kept moving. Because I knew, if I stopped now I would just end up turning around, and I couldn't do that. My mind was in a whirl as I tried to piece together all of the events that just happened.

'Matthias tried to kill me... Something was wrong with the guys... Matthias tried to kill me… They weren't able to feed… Matthias tried to kill me… It was making them sick... And Matthias tried to kill me..!' it just didn't seem real. Matthias, the same Matthias I'd come to know as a big goofy jerk…had suddenly turned into a vicious monster before my very eyes. But even that wasn't what had scared me the most. It was the emptiness, the utter lack of recognition in his eyes when he looked at me. As if he couldn't even remember who I was, let alone that I was his friend or that he'd almost kissed me a few days ago. At that point, I had been nothing more than a meal to him. Just the thought of it sent shivers down my spine.
Looking up from the ground which I had been focusing on, I realized I was at a park, but not one that I recognized. In other words, not only was I homeless, but now I was lost as well. Frustration brewed inside me, pounding against my head in an immense headache. A breeze began to pick up, colder than I expected and biting at my skin. In my haste I'd been unable to grab a jacket, and was now left in nothing but a t-shirt and some shorts. I wasn't even wearing shoes. Rubbing my arms against the sudden chill, I headed towards the park and took a seat on one of the swings. I would have to find somewhere else to live now, but where could I go? I didn't have a home to return to, and I didn't know where any of my friend's houses were from my current location. On top of that, it was getting late, and the sun was going down. Soon it would be dark, cold, and I would be alone with no place to go. It was at that moment when everything became too much to bare, and I finally broke down. Shuddering sobs broke loose from my body, sending hot fat tears cascading down my cheeks. I buried my face in my hands and began to cry my broken heart out.

~N5 POV~

Matthias stepped outside and took a deep breath of fresh air. He immediately felt a bit better. Granted he was still unbearably thirsty, but that could wait. Nothing else was more important than finding _____, and apologizing until she forgave him…if she ever would again. Lifting his face to the wind, he closed his eyes and breathed deeply, hunting for that one particular scent. Like a literal blood hound, he soon caught her scent and began to follow it. He didn't get far though, before suddenly stopping.

"What is it?" asked Emil, instantly wary. Matthias's eyes hardened, another scent was on the breeze, one that made his blood boil.

"He's near, and he found ______." The others exchanged alarmed glances. Matthias kept his gaze fixed on the direction the scent was coming from, and frowned. Then he turned and went back inside, returning a moment later with a large axe slung over his shoulder.

"A-are you sure you're going to need that?" asked Tino. The Dane nodded,

"This is going to get ugly, I can tell." Tino hesitated a moment, then went inside to fetch his own weapon, as did everyone else. When they came back out, Tino had a large sniper rifle, Emil a spear, Lukas a giant halberd, and Berwald a long sword. They then proceeded to run towards the park as fast as they could, praying it would only be fast enough.

~Reader POV~

I wiped my eyes as the sobs finally came to an end. A good twenty minutes had passed during my episode, and it was now darker and colder than before. Wrapping my arms around myself, I stood up from my seat on the swing, and began to look for some shelter. An old shed caught my eye, and I started to make my way towards it. I stopped though when I heard a noise. Turning my head, I saw a child skipping down the street, singing a song I couldn't understand the words to, though the tune sounded like London Bridge. I wouldn't have paid it much mind, but the way the child moved just seemed to catch my attention. His movements were fluid and graceful, surprising for a child whom I guessed was no more than twelve. It almost reminded me of…no! I mentally slapped myself for such a thought. There was no way he could be one of them. But still, it was a little strange. What was even stranger was the fact that he was out so late, even though it was none of my business. And even stranger than that was, when he looked up at me, a smile grew across his face. Before I could react, he started skipping towards me, stopping only when he'd reached my side.

"Hi there!" he chirped, grinning childishly. I blinked,

"Oh, er…hi." Giggling, he clasped his hands behind his back and swiveled on his hips.

"Did you come to play at the park too?" his big blue eyes sparkled brightly, despite how dark it was growing.

"Um…not exactly." I replied somewhat quietly. He tilted his head,

"Then why come to the park if you don't want to play?" I stared at him, wondering why he would ask such questions. I wondered why he would start talking to me at all; didn't parents usually teach their children not to talk to strangers? Looking at him though, he seemed genuinely curious. And he was just a kid, not like there was much he could do, right?

"Well, I'm just looking for a place to stay for tonight." His eyes widened,

"Why? Don't you have a home? I have a home, with a really big family! We all have lots of fun together!" I gulped, holding back the tears that threatened to resurface at the mention of homes and family.

"N-no…I mean, I used to, but…y'know I should really get going. I'm sorry. You should go home, it's getting late." With that I started to leave, only to freeze at his next words.

"It must be worse than I'd imagined if you're not living there anymore. But I can't believe they'd throw you out…so you must have run away." He giggled,

"I guess that means my little plan worked." Slowly, I turned back to face him. The boy was still grinning, but it wasn't sweet and innocent anymore. It was a dark, almost evil little smirk, which looked completely wrong on his face. His blue eyes had become a crimson shade, and seemed to glow like embers under the dark curtain of his bangs. He stepped towards me, hands still clasped behind his back. I gasped, and backed away, only to be stopped when his hand suddenly closed around my wrist. Before I knew it, I was pinned against a brick wall. He was only an inch away from me, eyes closed as he breathed against my neck.

"You smell really good." He murmured. That's when I knew.

"Y-you're a vampire!" I asked whispered. He chuckled,

"And you're not very bright. I can't believe it took you this long. Honestly love, what kind of child goes skipping around on the street, at this time of night?" pulling away from me, he continued to smirk.

"It's not normal for someone like you to be out and about at this time of night either, which made it that much easier to find you." Narrowing his eyes, he added,

"And it also makes it that much easier to make this look like an accident." His eyes gleamed as he licked his lips hungrily. I tried to wrench myself free, but it was no use. This vampire was well fed, and very strong. I wasn't going anywhere.

"Y-you can't j-just kill me out in the m-middle of the street! W-what if someone sees?" amusement flickered in his blood-red orbs.

"I wouldn't be too worried, poppet. I've got my ways." Opening his mouth, I saw the flash of his fangs, long and sharp, as he pulled me closer and leaned in.

"Don't you dare." Came a sudden growl. I jumped, but the boy didn't seem surprised at all. Instead he only chuckled, and leaned back. I tried to find out where the voice was coming from, but the darkness made it impossible to see anything, even with the dim streetlamps glowing. I knew who that voice belonged to, but I couldn't believe I was actually hearing it. Footsteps approached from the shadows, and a moment later, he was there.

"M-Matthias!" I cried, surprisingly relieved to see his tall, spiky-haired form. He gave me a soft smile, before his eyes hardened and returned to the boy holding me captive.

"Hello Matthias." He giggled. Matthias smirked darkly,

"It's been a long time…Peter."
